LTD / 8 strings / 2013–2014

LTD SC-338 (2013–2014)

Historical mention

Budget 8-string series with a short 25.5" scale, which sparked technical debate over the intonation problems that scale causes on the lowest string.

Known specifications

Production years: 2013–2014

Scale: 25.5" (unusual for an 8-string)

Historical significance

The short scale sparked debate on technical forums: to maintain correct tension and tuning on a low F# on such a short neck, disproportionately heavy string gauges were needed, causing intonation problems and a loss of harmonic brightness.
