Historical significance

It established on the mass market the unusual configuration of active pickups located only in the bridge and middle positions. It was key in the Deftones (2003) sessions, enabling tracks such as “Hexagram” and “Minerva” in G-sharp (G#) tuning.

  • Carpenter's first signature 7-string
  • Unusual active bridge+middle configuration
  • Discontinued due to lack of tension on the 25.5" scale for the lowest notes

Anecdotes and history

End of the 25.5" scale on 7-strings

technical analysis

Carpenter determined that the 25.5" scale did not provide the physical tension needed on the lowest strings to respond well live, which led to consolidating the 27" baritone scale across the entire later 7-string range.
